Hel, better known as Hela, daughter of Loki, sister of the wolf Fenrir and the serpent Jörmugandr, was given the role of guardian of the realm of the same name (Hel), part of Niflheim, by Odin. She is half beautiful, half-undead. She is responsible for the lodging of the souls sent to her. She rides Helhest, a three-legged steed, harbinger of pestilence and plague, rounding up the souls that will populate her realm.
